Hard Crumb Pie
(makes 2 pies)2 Cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 Cup brown sugar
1/4 Cup lard
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch soda
Milk or water to wet like rivels
Grease Pans
Bake at 350° for 20 mins. |
Don't worry, the booklet will explain what a rivel is and what you are
supposed to do with all the ingredients. But the recipes I was handed down looked
just like what you see here! You learned how to make most of the recipes by watching
Grandma make 'em a couple of hundred times!
But you won't have to - I'll provide all the explanations and the detailed instructions as
you go.
By the way this particular recipe makes a cake-like pie that goes great with a big, hot
cup of black coffee!! As kids, us grandkids loved it with a big glass of cold milk -
the kind you had to shake the cream down into before you poured it from the bottle - it
came straight from the cow! |
